At this point, there are a lot of different speculations and theories regarding the characters of ‘Ahsoka.’ After all, the events of ‘Ahsoka’ take place more than 20 years before the events of the sequel trilogy, and this series was meant to be one of the storylines that would bridge the gaps leading to the events of the sequels. In that regard, fans are now speculating more about Sabine Wren and her possible connection to the Knights of Ren. So, could Sabine become one of the Knights of Ren?

Sabine Wren couldn’t have been one of the Knights of Ren because Ren and the Knights of Ren came from the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. It also seems like all of the members of the Knights of Ren are male, including Ren himself. Sabine becoming an evil Knight of Ren also defeats the purpose of her character development arc.

While many people love to establish connections between the different Star Wars characters we’ve seen so far, there are no connections that need to be made when there are simply no connections at all. This includes the possible connection of Sabine Wren to the Knights of Ren, who are entirely different from her. So, with that said, let’s look at the theories related to this topic.

Did Sabine establish the Knights of Ren?

One of the things that we know about the sequel trilogy is that Kylo Ren, who used to be Ben Solo, was the leader of a group of knights who worship the dark side of the Force. These people formed a group called the Knights of Ren. But the thing is that the Knights of Ren are quite mysterious in terms of their origin.

The mystery behind the Knights of Ren has led some fans to believe that a familiar character may have been responsible for forming this group of motorbike gang-like Force wielders. We are talking about Sabine Wren, one of the main characters of the ‘Ahsoka’ series, as she works under Ahsoka Tano as a Padawan learner. And it is easy to see why fans think that Sabine Wren may have been the one who established the Knights of Ren.

First of all, “Wren” sounds similar to “Ren.” But it is important to take note that the similarities end there. The names sound the same but are spelled differently. On top of that, Sabine’s family name has a long history in Mandalore, as Clan Wren has existed for a very long time as one of the noble houses of Mandalore.

On the other hand, we know that the Knights of Ren were named after the group’s founder. The man was called Ren. The Knights of Ren came from the Unknown Regions of the galaxy and were led by a man bearing the alias “Ren,” which was a name passed down from one leader to another. At one point, a mysterious user of the dark side of the Force killed the previous Ren and became known as Ren. This was the Ren that Ben Solo killed before he became Kylo Ren.

Going back to our point, Ren and the Knights of Ren existed long before the events of ‘Ahsoka’ as they were actually operating as a small band of elite fighters that worship the dark side of the Force. They were not friends with the Sith or any other user of the Force, as that was what Ren himself told the Knights of Ren.

“Just because we use the shadow doesn’t mean the Sith are our friends. It’s just that the Emperor’s been dealing with other problems first—the Jedi, the Nightsisters… we’re small fish in comparison. I realize that doesn’t fit with how we see ourselves…but that’s what it is.”

In that regard, the Knights of Ren have been around for a while already, even before Kylo Ren took the leadership reigns of the group. This means that Sabine couldn’t have been the one who established this group because she was still far too young to actually establish this group during the era of the Empire. And the leadership pipeline clearly indicates that the Knights of Ren must have existed long before the era of the Empire.

Is Sabine related to the Knights of Ren?

So, while we established that Sabine wasn’t responsible for founding the Knights of Ren, some people think she may be related to the group. After all, she is an elite warrior who can use various weapons regardless of how weak her connection to the Force may be. But there are many reasons why she isn’t related to the Knights of Ren.

Sabine’s history has been clearly mapped out by the events of ‘Star Wars: Rebels.’ She used to be a cadet at the Imperial Academy after learning the Mandalorian warriors’ ways from her own family, Clan Wren. However, she left the academy and eventually became part of Kanan Jarrus’ fledgling group of Rebels called the Spectres. And after aiding in the fall of the Empire, Sabine has been spending time on Lothal.

The fact that Sabine is Mandalorian and that the Knights of Ren originated from the Unknown Regions clearly indicates that there is no connection between her and this group of weak Force-wielders.

Sabine being a Knight of Ren ruins her character development

Of course, some fans think that Sabine may have joined the Knights of Ren somewhere between the Ahsoka events and the sequel trilogy. But the thing is that Lucasfilm would only be shooting themselves in the foot if they decided to end Sabine’s character arc this way.

Sabine’s character arc has always been about her learning more about herself and becoming less stubborn while still staying true to her Mandalorian roots and upbringing. Then, in the ‘Ahsoka’ series, Ahsoka Tano believes she made the right choice in training Sabine despite her weakness in the Force.

The reason is that Ahsoka knows that Sabine’s heart is in the right place and that training someone weak in the Force could be a good way of changing the culture of the Jedi.

So, if Sabine were to end up turning to the dark side to join the Knights of Ren, this defeats her entire character development arc’s purpose. It would be pointless to build Sabine’s character development up only for her to become an unknown and obscure member of the Knights of Ren at some point in the future.

Doing this will only force people to lose faith in the different characters of Star Wars. The very purpose of Sabine’s status as a Jedi Padawan is to prove that everyone can be a Jedi with the right kind of attitude and training. Ahsoka wants to prove that being a Jedi isn’t all about aptitude but is more about a person’s good heart and desire to be a Jedi.

As such, turning Sabine into a Knight of Ren would only add fuel to the fires of criticisms in the Disney-era of Star Wars. And that’s why there is no way that Sabine would ever be a Knight of Ren.
