Is the Front Man Il-nam’s Son? The ‘Squid Game’ Theory That’s Blowing Fans’ Minds

A theory from ‘Squid Game’ season 2 suggests that Il-nam might be the Front Man’s father. While this idea may seem unlikely at first, some plot details that go back to season 1 make it believable and have caught the attention of fans. It’s still unclear if any season 2 characters are really connected to Il-nam, but this theory sets the stage for interesting twists in the show’s third and final season.

In ‘Squid Game’ season 2, In-ho hands his milk carton to Jun-hee, saying he doesn’t drink plain milk. Fans connected this to a season 1 moment where Gi-hun opts for chocolate milk, leading Il-nam to mention his son disliked plain milk and often got in trouble for it. This has sparked a theory that In-ho might be lactose intolerant, explaining his refusal of the milk. The exact scene in question is this:

As you can see In-ho heavily suggests he is lactose intolerant.

The scene from season 1 sees Gi-hun asking for chocolate milk since he can’t properly digest normal milk. Il-nam then correctly assumes that he must’ve been spanked a lot as a kid due to this, and Gi-hun confirms it shocked as to how the old man could have known that.

Il-nam then says that his son was the same way. To be frank, Il-nam never stated his son was lactose intolerant he only suggested that his son was a picky eater.

This theory is far-fetched but season 3 could bring surprising twists, including the theory that the Front Man, In-ho, is Il-nam’s son. In season 2, In-ho reveals he joined the games to pay for his wife’s liver treatment, suggesting he was unaware of Il-nam’s connection at the time.

After winning the games and learning Il-nam was his father, In-ho may have felt grateful for the opportunity to save his wife, even though she eventually passed away. This gratitude might explain why In-ho chose to continue Il-nam’s legacy as the Front Man.

The theory that Il-nam is the Front Man’s father seems unlikely, though the show could still surprise viewers. The Front Man appears to deeply respect Il-nam’s vision, ensuring the games continue without interference.

In season 2, he mirrors Il-nam by participating in the games as Player 001, showing a similar childlike fascination with them. Since Il-nam’s creation allowed the Front Man to save his wife when even his family abandoned him, he may see Il-nam as a mentor or father figure. This admiration could explain why Il-nam chose him to lead the games.

Also, let’s keep in mind that this lactose intolerance theory is a repeated motive from season 1 as viewers theorized back then that Gi-hun and Il-nam were father and son due to that scene.

It’s definitely weird, but not a lot of evidence supports it, primarily the fact that Gi-hun would remember Il-nam if he was the person who spanked him and if that was a shared memory between them.
