It Seems That James Gunn Debunked Kumail Nanjiani’s Casting as DCU’s Booster Gold

‘Booster Gold’ is one of several live-action shows planned for the DCU in the upcoming years as part of ‘Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.’ While details about the show remain sparse, James Gunn recently confirmed that it won’t be entering production anytime soon.

As usual, fans have shared their hopes for actors to take on the titular role. Given their connections to James Gunn and their physical resemblance to the character, Antony Starr and Chris Pratt emerged as top contenders, but both rumors have since been debunked.

Recently, NPN reported a rumor that Kumail Nanjiani has been cast as Booster Gold in the DCU. The actor boasts an impressive resume, and if the rumors hold true, he was likely chosen for his comedic background.

However, fans have taken to social media to express their discontent with this casting choice, mainly because Nanjiani is Pakistani-American, which contrasts significantly with Booster Gold’s traditional comic depictions.

Nanjiani was also a part of MCU’s ‘Eternals’ and many did not like his portrayal of the character or acting in general. But it was primarily due to the fact that Nanjiani doesn’t look like Booster Gold remotely.

If you were hoping that a miracle would happen and that Booster Gold would indeed be played by someone else, we have some good news for you, as Jams Gunn seemingly debunked the casting. Well, depending on how you interpret his comments.

Recently, Gunn reposted a post about himself that details all his achievements in the industry since he became a co-CEO of DC Studios. One of the photos that he reposted was that of all so-far known big castings in the DCU, and among them was Nanjiani’s Booster Gold.

One fan then asked Gunn whether the fact that he reposted this photo was a confirmation that Nanjiani is playing Booster. Gunn said no.

Before you start celebrating, however, keep in mind that Gunn also didn’t say explicitly: “No, Nanjiani is not Booster Gold.” The director only stated that reposting this image is not a confirmation.

There are still significant chances that Nanjiani was chosen for the role, especially when you take into account how much he hung around the set of ‘Superman’ and with the DCU crew in general.

But then again, this opens up another possibility altogether. Nanjiani was perhaps cast as someone else, some other big profile role. In that case, it would explain why he is hanging around the set so much and why Gunn is reluctant to outright debunk his casting as Booster Gold.
