It Took a Few Days, But Petition To De-Canonize ‘The Acolyte’ Is Online

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was confirmed to be canceled a few days ago. This stirred mixed reactions in the community, with some fans wanting Osha’s and Qimir’s stories to continue and some trying to forget the whole fiasco.

The show suffered from a lack of quality and viewers, with a bloated budget it truly did have only a few things going for it. Action scenes and two important cameos in the season finale were nice, but it wasn’t enough to save the whole show.

Now the exact reason for the cancelation was never officially confirmed by either Disney or Lucasfilm but insider reports claim something that we already knew, no one watched the show and it was too expensive.

Despite this, several social movements have started as a last-ditch attempt to “save” the show. Hashtags #SaveTheAcolyte and #RenewTheAcolyte trended on X. The Petition is also currently online on Change.org in order to persuade Disney to reverse their decision, the petition currently has over 49,000 signatures.

While similar stunts have been successful in the past when it comes to other canceled shows and movies, considering that Disney is reviewing its release strategy we already analyzed that it’s likely not going to work this time.

Now, since quite a lot of people came to ‘The Acolyte’s’ defense, it was only expected that a counter-movement would start as well. A few days ago, a petition to de-canonize ‘The Acolyte’ was also put online, although it has fewer signatures than the attempt to resurrect it.

Like so many fans of Star Wars, I found the show the acolyte absolutely frustrating. For some, it might’ve been The abysmal writing, the ever-changing character, motivations, or the awkward cinematography and strange jump cuts. The show was completely misdirected. For others could be the multiple ways the show breaks canon, jangles keys of established characters damaging them in the future or the way the show makes the prophecy of the chosen one completely insignificant. Help me show Disney that we want to reset the prequel era back to George’s original vision that I know so many of us love.

‘The Acolyte’ initially did clash with the established canon in several instances, however, those types of loose ends were eventually wrapped up in the final episodes since no one survived to tell the tale of Sith Lord roaming the Galaxy more than hundred years before the appearance of Darth Maul.

Still, the fans were also unhappy with the fact that Osha’s and Mae’s stories are basically carbon copies of Anakin’s own story.

No matter whether you consider ‘The Acolyte’ a good show or not, just like in the case of the “Renew The Acolyte’ petition, this one also seems unlikely to get fulfilled.
