James Gunn Clears up the Timeline of the Upcoming ‘Waller’ Show

Share:

‘Waller’ was confirmed to be in development back in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker’, with Viola Davis reprising her role as the titular character, recently it’s been confirmed that the show will not be comedy-oriented as ‘Peacemaker’ as Waller is much more serious character, and the show will try to reflect that tone.

The show was supposed to be released in 2024, but the fact that Gunn is now focusing on the rest of the DCU projects, the best-case scenario is that the show gets released in 2025, even though the 2024 release date is still present in some sources.

Considering the recent announcements regarding ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 fans asked Gunn on social media whether the upcoming show will take place before or after the events of the second season of ‘Peacemaker’ and Gunn, helpful as always cleared up that it’s going to take place after.

Recently, Gunn has stirred quite the uproar confirming that some DCEU events will be canon to the DCU.

Frank Grillo was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, after already being confirmed to voice the character for the animated show. This aligns with what Gunn said back when he was presenting the DCU, that he would like for the voice actors to play themselves in live-action projects as well.

But, this announcement was followed by confirmation that Flag Sr. will have a beef to settle with Peacemaker, and as we all know, Peacemaker is responsible for the death of Flag Jr. in ‘The Suicide Squad.’

The clash between the original DC Universe and James Gunn’s revamped DCU is inevitable, even though Gunn claimed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is set within the DCU. Despite assurances from Gunn that it won’t be confusing, the conflicting visions are on a collision course.

If Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag is part of the DCU, then it follows that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and potentially Henry Cavill’s Superman, due to Davis’ appearance in the post-credit scene of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, also exist within that universe.

‘Waller’ and ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will be shot back-to-back, and considering the connection between the two shows, plenty of fans are now left confused with some of Gunn’s previous statements that ‘Peacemaker’ season 1 is not canon to the DCU, and that the transition between the two universes is going to be as smooth as possible, but also leaving some ‘Suicide Squad’ events as canon.
