James Gunn Debunks Batman Casting Rumors & Clears up Age Difference Between Clark and Bruce in the DCU

Out of all the planned projects in the current DCU, fans are most excited about the upcoming ‘Superman’ and ‘The Brave and the Bold’ live-action Batman movie. We know that when Gunn cast Superman and went for David Corenswet instead of Henry Cavill, he was going for a much younger Superman, but assured us the upcoming movie won’t be an origin story.

When it comes to ‘Brave and the Bold’ we know almost anything about the movie except that it’s going to feature both Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, which fans took as a sure sign that DCU’s Batman will be much older than Superman.

Since James Gunn is pretty active on Threads, he often debunks rumors related to his upcoming projects. The most recent rumor shared by Jeff Sneider was that Gunn has already possibly picked the actor to play Batman, and Gunn was pretty quick to say that this is not true and the casting for the role hasn’t even begun yet.

As a reminder, several actors have been put forward by fans as the ideal choices for the role starting with Alan Ritchson, who leads an impressive campaign online to be cast as the Dark Knight, and Jensen Ackles, who already voices the character in animated projects. There’s also MCU’s Winston Duke, who put himself forward implying that it’s time for the world to have a black Batman.

So, if you were counting on the announcement of the next Caped Crusader in the coming weeks, I’m afraid I have to disappoint you. While he was discussing Batman casting, one fan asked him to clear up the age difference between Superman and Batman and Gunn was quick to point out that he never specified the age difference, only that the two won’t be bound by the same age in the DCU:

I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that. What I said was Bruce “could be” a couple years older than Clark. All I meant was I wasn’t tied to Bruce and Clark being the exact same age.

Still, fans continue to speculate. Since ‘Brave and the Bold’ will be the start of the Bat Family in the DCU, we can assume that Bruce Wayne will be in his mid-thirties at best, ruling out quite a few actors from the role.
