James Gunn Dismisses Rumor of DC Studios Seeking a Middle-Aged Batman as ‘Bull****’

There are little under two months separating us from the official start of the DCU – the release of the ‘Creature Commandos’ animated show. Although both Gunn and Safran have said in the past that the true start is ‘Superman’ set for a 2025 release.

The cast of the DCU is slowly filling up, with Superman, Supergirl, and notable Green Lanterns already being cast, but there’s not a word on the potential casting of Batman.

We know that DCU’s Batman is supposed to debut in ‘The Brave and the Bold’ movie, based on the DC comics storyline of the same name. But we know very little about the project in general, with most Batman-related news coming from Reeves’ own Batman Crime Epic Saga Universe.

Recently, a rumor appeared that Gunn is looking for a middle-aged Batman. Fans, who frequently cast the likes of Jensen Ackles and Allan Ritchson in the role did not like that at all.

The original post has since been removed from Threads but Gunn’s debunk remained.

The rumor was most likely made up, however it’s not completely random as you might assume. In the past Gunn stated that Batman could be older than Clark Kent in the DCU. The story does not depend on them being the same age.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that. What I said was Bruce “could be” a couple years older than Clark. All I meant was I wasn’t tied to Bruce and Clark being the exact same age.

Fans are still speculating about the casting for ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ which marks the introduction of the Bat Family in the DCU. It’s expected that Bruce Wayne will be in his mid-thirties, eliminating several potential actors for the role.
