The animated series Creature Commandos, now streaming on Max, has captivated audiences by laying the foundation for a fresh DC universe while delivering a compelling narrative. Early on, James Gunn, the series’ writer and producer, cleverly introduces Themyscira and its mysteries through the villain Cersei, teasing connections to Wonder Woman.

Episode 4 features a chilling vision where Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) foresees a catastrophic future for the DCU, packed with intriguing Easter eggs. In Episode 6, the spotlight shifts to Dr. Phosphorus’ heartbreaking origin story, voiced by Alan Tudyk.

For the first time in the series, Batman makes an appearance, albeit briefly, sparking intense fan speculation. Gunn revealed to Rotten Tomatoes TV that he intentionally kept Batman’s design ambiguous, relying on silhouettes rather than full details, saying, “I wasn’t ready to commit to that.”

This careful approach has sparked plenty of speculation, particularly about Batman’s costume. After years of black suits in live-action films, fans are eager for a comeback of the classic grey-and-blue design. While Gunn hasn’t revealed what his Batman will wear in live-action, he has shared a few key insights:

This version of Batman is already an active force in the DCU, playing a pivotal role alongside Superman. Gunn emphasized that there’s no need to revisit origin stories, as these heroes are firmly established in the universe.

Creature Commandos seamlessly blends fresh characters, like its villainous team, with classic DC lore, including Sgt. Rock and Easy Company. Gunn’s openness to exploring stories like a potential Clayface movie highlights the creative flexibility driving this new DCU.

The latest episode is streaming now, with the finale set to release on Thursday, January 9. Don’t miss out—catch up to see how it all unfolds! Got thoughts? Share them in the comments below!
