James Gunn Says ‘Superman: Legacy’ Script Is ‘99.9% Finished’, Debunks New Batman Casting Rumors

James Gunn is famously active on social media, especially on the new platform, Threads, where he keeps sharing details and answering fan questions. And, just recently, he gave us two big updates for two highly-anticipated DCU projects upcoming in the next several years – ‘Superman: Legacy,’ and ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold.’
Both will be huge for DC Studios and for Gunn, who took over as co-CEO with Peter Safran a couple of years ago.
Recently, rumors started spreading on Twitter (or X, if you will) about the casting choices for ‘The Brave and the Bold.’ Jensen Ackles was allegedly cast as Bruce Wayne, Javon Walton as Damian Wayne, aka Robin, Wolfgang Novogratz as Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, and Clancy Brown as Alfred Pennyworth.
You can toss those rumors in the trash, as Gunn confirmed on Threads that they are false:
“There’s no script yet. [Of course] it’s false.” – Gunn wrote.
Essentially, Gunn isn’t even thinking about casting for the project yet because not even the script has been finished yet. You can’t really cast properly if you don’t know what kind of role you’re looking for, right?
That would explain why so many cast members for ‘Superman: Legacy’ have already been announced. Answering another fan on Threads when asked at what percentage he is at with the script for the new Superman film, the director answered:
“99.9%. I’m always changing small things but it’s been essentially done since well before the strike.”
Naturally, he knows what he wants with the movie, so he already made his major casting choices. David Corenswet will portray Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan will be his Lois Lane. Just recently, it was confirmed that Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor, while Maria Gabriela de Faria portrays a villain called The Engineer.
A week ago, Gunn also confirmed on Threads that Skyler Gisondo would portray Jimmy Olsen, whereas Sara Sampaio will be Eve Teschmacher.
When will ‘Superman: Legacy’ and ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ premiere?
We actually have no idea when ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ will come out, especially considering the fact that the SAG-AFTRA strikes pushed back the development of the script even more. As James Gunn shared, there’s no script yet, so the timeline for the film’s release is uncertain.
We do know that the director of the movie will be Andy Muschietti (the director of ‘It’ and ‘The Flash’), as it was announced way back in June.
As for ‘Superman: Legacy,’ we do have a date, and as things are right now, it still stands despite the strikes – the movie will be released on July 11, 2025. As Gunn shared – you guessed it – on Threads:
“Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025.”
James confirmed multiple times that casting is never done until the script is complete, so once you hear that there is a script for ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ finished and in Gunn’s hands, only then can you start vaguely believing the casting rumors for the film.
Although, Jensen Ackles might not be a bad idea for Bruce Wayne. Just putting that out there, James *wink-wink, nudge-nudge*. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
