James Gunn, known for his eccentricity, has carved out a reputation for creating some of the best comic book movies in recent years. His opinions on comic books and films hold weight due to his boldness in expressing them. Recently, Gunn discussed intriguing details during an interview with Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast, including addressing a question of significant interest to fans.
Given Gunn’s extensive experience with the MCU and deep knowledge of comic books, it was natural for Rosenbaum to ask: in a head-to-head battle, who would prevail – the Guardians of the Galaxy or the Avengers?
As you’re aware, Gunn has been deeply involved with the Guardians of the Galaxy series for Marvel, intimately familiar with its characters. While he also contributed to the Avengers series towards the end, his closer association with the Guardians makes his answer predictable to fans:
“I always thought that theGuardians would beat the sh*t out of the Avengers, easily. It’s just… they’re [from] outer space, they have technology that is, you know, pretty advanced. So, it would be hard to beat them.”

This answer shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with Gunn’s deep attachment to his projects. The Guardians of the Galaxy were a passion endeavor for him, and his trilogy remains among the MCU’s finest. Gunn believes his Suicide Squad would also put up a strong fight, but ultimately, he sees the Guardians prevailing in both scenarios.
While Gunn’s opinion settles it for some, both teams have evolved over the years, making a definitive and objective answer nearly impossible. We expect many of you may disagree with Gunn, and we invite you to share your thoughts in the comments below.
That’s all for now, but stay tuned for more updates like this!
