James Gunn and Peter Safran are busy building a new cinematic universe based on DC Comics, following the end of the DCEU. One project that made it through the “reset” is James Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker,’ which is coming back for a second season as part of the new DCU.
The co-CEO of DC Studios confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will officially be part of the DCU. He reassured fans that the shift from the DCEU to the DCU would be smooth and easy to follow, especially for ‘Peacemaker,’ with no confusion.
Since then, the director changed his mind on several occasions. Initially, Gunn stated that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 wouldn’t be canon at all. However, he later clarified that the entire first season remains canon—except for the Justice League cameo, a scene he included but likely regrets now.
The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker,”
Gunn also said that all DCEU events referenced or shown in ‘Creature Commandos’ are automatically canon, which will no doubt lead to some very interesting online discussions.
In a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, James Gunn and Dean Lorey talked about the upcoming animated series ‘Creature Commandos.’ Gunn joked about the title for ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and hinted at a moment that would be removed from the canon.
When asked if Season 2 would have a subtitle like ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol,’ Gunn laughed and responded humorously.
“I think Peacemaker Season 2, asterisk, no Justice League happened in Peacemaker Season 1. [Laughs]”
Gunn also confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is almost finished filming. He has shown his excitement about editing the episodes, saying that editing is his favorite part, and he’s looking forward to focusing on it soon.
