James McAvoy Addresses Charles Xavier’s Return in the MCU and It’s Bad News

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ opened the floodgates for mutants and X-Men in the MCU. Even though mutants were already present in the cinematic universe, X-Men weren’t referenced at all in any serious manner until the release of the latest Deadpool flick.

Professor X technically did debut in the MCU, played by Patrick Stewart in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ but it was a variant that belongs to a different reality altogether and the character was unfortunately killed off by Scarlet Witch.

‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is brewing a multiversal mashup of characters from all Marvel live-action properties, at least if the rumors are to be believed, and there’s also that upcoming X-Men live-action reboot we can look forward to.

Considering that Professor X is one of the most notable mutants and members of X-Men, fans naturally expect him to appear in all projects, ideally played by James McAvoy.

The actor recently sat down with Buzzfeed UK, and he commented on his most iconic roles. James McAvoy believes it’s more likely that his roles as Mr. Tumnus from ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and Charles Xavier will be recast for the upcoming Netflix Narnia reboot and the MCU’s X-Men movie. However, he acknowledges that there’s still a possibility he could return to Professor X in the MCU.

“That’s very kind. Although, I suspect, with both [Mr. Tumnus in Narnia] and [the X-Men’s Charles Xavier], we will be seeing someone else play those roles.”

McAvoy played Professor X for 8 years starting with ‘X-Men: First Class’ released in 2011 and his last appearance in ‘Dark Phoenix’ in 2019. The character was heavily referenced in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ since Xavier’s twin sister, Cassandra Nova is one of the main villains of the movie, but Professor did not make an appearance.

Despite Xavier likely being recast in the future if the MCU is going for a younger lineup of mutants, there’s still a possibility for the actor to reprise his role as a variant in ‘Secret Wars.’ What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
