Jason Momoa Is Taking the Lobo Role Seriously: “I have every Lobo comic. He was my favorite.”

Jason Momoa is stepping into a new role in the DC Universe, taking on the character of Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The actor, known for playing Aquaman in the DCEU, shared his excitement about this project during a recent chat on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 17.
He was there to talk about his other film, A Minecraft Movie, set to release in April, but the conversation quickly turned to his DC future.
Momoa has been a long-time fan of Lobo, a tough and wild character from the comics. He explained how he thought he might play Lobo years ago when director Zack Snyder first called him for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Back then, he ended up as Aquaman instead.
Now, he’s finally getting his chance with Lobo. “I’m right now working on Supergirl, yeah,” he said, confirming his involvement. He also added, “[I] have every Lobo comic. He was my favorite. I thought I was gonna be playing Lobo when Zack Snyder called me. Because it was Batman v. Superman, they needed to have a villain in there, and that’s the only guy that can, you know…”
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will feature Milly Alcock as Kara. Gunn has been confident about her casting and the film’s direction. He didn’t expect it to be the second DCU movie after Superman, but things fell into place.
“I didn’t necessarily know that Supergirl would be the second movie we were going to make, but Ana [Nogueira] wrote an incredible script, and then we hired an incredible director, and we’re going to do this movie after Superman because he was the best option,” Gunn stated.
Alcock’s version of Supergirl is said to have a tough, punk-rock edge, shaped by her witnessing Krypton’s destruction as a child.
Gunn has called the process of making this film “an extraordinary experience so far.” With Momoa as Lobo, Alcock as Supergirl, and a strong team behind it, the movie is shaping up to be a big moment for the DCU.
