Over a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios as Co-Producers and Co-CEOs, announcing a new slate of movies and shows to reboot the struggling DCEU.

This meant that popular actors like Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, and Gal Gadot would not be reprising their roles in future DC films. Although some actors, like Cavill, have already moved on to other projects, rumors about Momoa staying with DC and playing Lobo have been circulating from the start.

These rumors were fueled by Momoa’s resemblance to the character and his long-standing desire to portray him. Now, the rumors are true, as Momoa confirmed on his Instagram that he will be playing Lobo.

In his post, Momoa shared a past statement about waiting for the studio’s call to play Lobo, with the caption “They called,” meaning he was contacted and likely accepted the role. Momoa will appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the second movie in the DCU. The film is already in development and is set to begin production in early 2025.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be a big sci-fi story contrasting Supergirl, who grew up on a piece of destroyed Krypton, with her cousin Superman, who was raised on Earth. Based on the 2021-2022 comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the film is written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie. Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl, and filming will start in January 2025, with the release scheduled for June 26, 2026.
