Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga keeps expanding. Following the success of ‘The Batman’ the universe welcomed another hits installment with ‘The Penguin’ spinoff show. The spinoff has received glowing reviews both from critics and fans and has seemingly set a bright future for Penguin as a villain in the future of the franchise.
Recently, Matt Reeves’ has teased the next Batman villain in ‘The Batman: Part II,’ and a large number of fans feel like he is describing Court of Owls. Of course, this doesn’t rule out other fan-favorite villains like Mr. Freeze, as the winter setting of the upcoming movie might even hint at his appearance.
Recently, James Gunn revealed that Reeves still did not deliver a script for the upcoming movie which has been delayed for over a year. This means that plenty of things can still change, including the movie’s planned villain.
During an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Jeffrey Wright, who plays Jim Gordon, shared an unexpected idea for the next villain. He suggested Gordon’s son, James Gordon Jr., who becomes a villain in the comics, could be an interesting choice. Wright mentioned he has “some ideas” about who could play the character but didn’t reveal any names.
There’s a lot to choose from. You know, Gordon actually has a son who becomes somewhat nefarious. That could be a possibility
Jim Gordon’s son, James, first appeared as a baby in ‘Batman: Year One’ in 1987 but disappeared until 2011 when he returned as a villain. Writer Scott Snyder revealed that James showed psychopathic traits as a child and grew up to be a full-blown psychopath, becoming one of Gotham’s deadly serial killers.
His story would be a great fit for a Batman who truly lives up to the title of the World’s Greatest Detective.
Wright also shed some light on the character’s absence in ‘The Penguin’ in a recent interview. Not only did Wright explain why Gordon was missing from the action, but he also hinted at what’s to come in the future.
There was no talk of my being in this first season. (…) Who knows? We’ll see what happens down the line, but I’m juggling enough balls as it is.
