The Acolyte is one of the newest additions to the Star Wars franchise, but many consider it one of the weakest entries. Despite Disney investing around $160 million in its production, the show fell short of expectations. Low viewership led to its cancellation after just 8 episodes. Some blame issues like racism and misogyny for its downfall, depending on who you ask.
This topic often comes up in online discussions about the show. During its run, the cast faced backlash, especially Amandla Stenberg, who played the twins Osha and Mae, and was reportedly targeted by racist comments.
Jodie Turner-Smith, who played Mother Aniseya, was also a target of racism. She recently criticized Disney for not defending its stars after a hateful segment of the fanbase attacked her and her co-stars online.
Months after the controversy around The Acolyte, Jodie Turner-Smith shared with Collider that she would still love to return to the franchise.
She spoke about how much she enjoyed working on The Acolyte and other potential Star Wars projects. Despite the challenges and “politics” involved, she found the experience fulfilling and called it a dream project.
In the end, she has no regrets and would happily return if given the opportunity.
Of course [I’d return]! First of all, I loved being in that universe, I had an incredible time doing that, and I loved it. No matter what, it’s fun, gratifying work.
There’s a lot of other stuff that comes with it that has nothing to do with the work and the colors of the work just because it’s’ politics or whatever, but ultimately it was a dream project to be a part of. I would do it again. I would. I don’t have any regrets. If there was an opportunity to do more, I would be right there.

The news comes shortly after Manny Jacinto revealed that Season 2 of The Acolyte would have included more of Darth Plagueis, had the show not been canceled.
Jacinto did mention he doesn’t want to raise expectations, but it felt like a tease for more—especially involving his character, a fan-favorite during the show’s run.
It’s great to see Turner-Smith open to returning, though it might be tricky to bring her character back since she died in the show.
Her story could be explored in a prequel, perhaps showing how Aniseya gained the power to create life or how she brought the twins Osha and Mae into existence.
Alternatively, she could appear in flashbacks if the series ever gets a second season, though that seems unlikely for now.
