It’s not every day that the same director manages to deliver both one of the highest-grossing “R” rated superhero movies, and one of the worst superhero movies ever made in general.

But it happened to Todd Phillips with his ‘Joker’ franchise. The first movie was an unexpected hit, and the second is a flop the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time.

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ premiered this Friday worldwide, and to say that the movie has been abysmally received is an understatement. Both fans and critics agree that it’s a bad movie as it’s Rotten Tomatoes keeps going down as the hours pass by and reviews are added.

The movie currently stands at 33% when it comes to critics and 34% when it comes to the approval rate by the audiences. The movie also received a “D” CineScore from the audience, the lowest of any superhero movie in history.

Now when we compare ‘Joker 2’ to DCEU movies, it has the lowest audience score by plenty. The critics, however, were still generous as ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ has the movie beat when it comes to critics score sitting at 29% along with ‘Suicide Squad’ (26 %) and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ (33 %).

The movie is also shaping up to be a notable box office flop. ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ had a $200M budget, almost three times the budget of the original movie. It opened with $7M at domestic previews, at nearly 50% less than the original movie.

It’s predicted that it might earn only $50M during its domestic opening weekend. It’s chaos all around, and fans who had the opportunity to catch the movie during its opening night shared their reactions online:

Many of the fans blame the failure of the movie on the fact that it was a musical. Both Lady Gaga and Todd Phillips vehemently denied that the movie is a musical, despite describing it as a musical.

Having seen the movie, I can absolutely 100 % confirm that it’s a musical – and one rather awkward musical at that.
