‘The Penguin’ is the most recent installment in the Matt Revees’ Batman Epic Crime Saga. The show takes place about a week following the events of ‘The Batman: Part I’ and follows Oswald Cobb and his attempts to fill the power vacuum left over by the death of Carmine Falcone.
The show is so far being praised as one of the greatest DC shows of all time. It features an amazing cast and performance by everyone involved. Notably, Cristin Milioti, who portrays Sofia Falcone, and Collin Farrell, who portrays Oswald Cobb.
When Farrell was first announced as The Penguin, fans did not like the choice for the role. Most noting that Farrell looks nothing like Oz. Still, the prosthetics department did their magic and Farrell is unrecognizable. Everything from his iconic hunched back to his limp is present along with some grotesque details on his face and baldness.
It’s truly a remarkable transformation, even though Farrell often complained about the costume and how difficult it is to wear it. His sacrifice is noted and the show is rewarded with record viewership and praise.
But, before Farrell was confirmed to be ‘The Penguin’ one notable actor was reportedly involved with the role. According to industry insiders, Jonah Hill was offered the role in ‘The Batman: Part I’ to play either Riddler or Penguin, as Variety reported.
Exactly 5 years ago it’s also been reported that Hill declined the role and has moved away from the project. The reasons were never exactly given on why, and it was never cleared up which specific role he was offered.
Based on Hill’s physical attributes he was most certainly selected for the role of Oswald Cobb. We really can’t say at this point whether he would be bad or good in the role. Hill is at the end of the day acclaimed actor with plenty of notable roles.
Hill received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the eccentric and morally questionable business partner of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ so it’s not like he is new to drama.
Ultimately, it ended for the best. The latest episode of ‘The Penguin’ attracted 1.7 million cross-platform viewers across Max and HBO in the U.S., marking a 21.43% increase from the series premiere’s 1.4 million viewers on September 19.
The latest episode also surpassed Episode 2’s 1.6 million viewers, achieving impressive numbers despite competing against NFL Sunday Night Football and the MLB National League Championship Series.
