Jonathan Majors Devastated by Downey Replacing Him as the Next Major MCU Villain

Do you remember Jonathan Majors, the promising actor who was set to portray Kang in the MCU and become the “next Thanos” of the franchise? Recently, it was reported that he was found guilty of physically attacking his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. As a consequence, he was sentenced to a 52-week in-person domestic violence intervention program, and his career took a significant hit.

Not only was he dismissed from the MCU role of Kang, but his character was also completely removed from the storyline. He has been replaced by Victor Von Doom, who will be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. The legendary Oscar winner is making his return to the MCU in this new villainous role.

Majors, who appears to be struggling to regain his stardom, recently expressed his heartbreak over the casting change. He stated that he felt he was not treated fairly or equally compared to other actors.

Before we continue, here’s a quick recap of the situation. Jonathan Majors portrayed Kang the Conqueror in several Marvel Cinematic Universe productions and was set to return as the main antagonist in Secret Wars. However, following a scandal and conviction for domestic abuse, Majors lost his role. Initially, Marvel planned to replace Majors and retain the character of Kang, but at the SDCC Marvel Panel, it was revealed that Kang had been scrapped altogether and replaced by Doctor Doom.

Meanwhile, as previously reported, Majors recently received an award for his perseverance (which was met with some skepticism). He is now striving to regain his former level of importance and popularity. With his character officially scrapped and replaced by another villain, Majors expressed his belief that his treatment was unfair.

“Yeah, [I’m] heartbroken, of course. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though. I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love and [he’s] being allowed to work [his] art and be creative at that level. didn’t really get that.”

It’s unclear why Ezra Miller is mentioned in the linked video (although he did play the Flash, the project failed, and he was ultimately fired). RDJ’s casting has no connection to Miller’s situation—RDJ didn’t get fired for personal misconduct; he received a fitting narrative conclusion after more than a decade in the role.

Majors claiming unfair treatment doesn’t quite add up, but he’s entitled to his opinion. What doesn’t make sense is the suggestion that this is a racial issue, as TMZ implied (you can read our earlier report on that). The situations aren’t really comparable.
