Josh Brolin Discusses His Return as Thanos in ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’

Josh Brolin, renowned for his portrayal of Thanos in the MCU’s Infinity Saga, recently hinted at the possibility of returning to this iconic role.
During a conversation with Collider, Brolin expressed his eagerness to reprise the Mad Titan, stressing the significance of the right circumstances and the involvement of Joe and Anthony Russo.
“I’m not kidding — there’s a process to playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re going to bring Thanos back.’ It’s similar to Sicario; it has to feel right. It’s like when Ryan Reynolds and I discuss Taylor Swift instead of focusing on Deadpool 4. We often go back and forth.
Ultimately, it’s about what fits in their minds and what fits in mine. Thanos must fit if he’s going to return. I would do anything the Russos wanted me to do,” Brolin shared.
When asked about any current discussions with Marvel, Brolin cleverly sidestepped the question with a cough, leaving fans to speculate on potential developments.
In the narrative of Avengers: Secret Wars, the possibility of Thanos clashing with Doctor Doom, now portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., looms large. This intriguing setup could lead to a dramatic confrontation over control of Battleworld, echoing their comic book battles.
The Russo brothers, directors of several acclaimed MCU films including Avengers: Endgame, are set to return for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
“Creating stories and exploring characters within the Marvel Universe has been a lifelong dream for us, and we’ve found a profound connection with audiences in every film we’ve made. As excitement builds, the cinematic journey will continue with Avengers: Doomsday hitting theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Fans are eager to see how these new installments will transform the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
