Jude Law played Yon-Rogg, the commander of Starforce and a mentor to Carol Danvers in the 2019 film ‘Captain Marvel’. His character initially appears supportive but is later revealed to have his own agenda, ultimately opposing Danvers.

Law’s portrayal of Yon-Rogg received mixed reviews, with some fans wishing for a deeper exploration of his character’s backstory and motivations.

As it turns out Law himself wanted to do more with his character and have more fun with it. Law recently spoke to Variety and reflected on the role.

I don’t think there was much more they could get out of Yon-Rogg. That, for me, was the height of Marvel.

Law explained that he wanted to explore the character more deeply. He could have made the role more exaggerated and humorous. He mentioned that while he had a good experience, he felt limited in his ability to have fun with the character due to the constraints of the costume, which made physical movements challenging.

Law highlighted the difficulty of performing stunts while wearing the thick rubber suit, noting that despite thorough stunt training, the suit’s design hindered his mobility.

It was a really good experience. I wish I’d been allowed to have a bit more fun with the part. I wanted him to be more arch. I wanted to lean into the humor more. Also, those suits are hard to move in because they’re thick rubber.

You go to stunt camp for a couple of months, where you’re doing all these fight rehearsals and learning to do all this stuff. And then you put the suit on, and you go, ‘Oh! I can’t touch my toes! How am I going to do all that stuff with this thing on?’ You figure it out though.

Interestingly his co-star Brie Larson also reflected on the hardship of superhero costumes. The actress stated in the past that the first advice she gives to MCU newcomers is related to the suit:

I’m the first person to email everybody because it’s very specific and very strange. People are like, “I don’t know how to do this.” Yeah, no one does. Why would you? I’ll say, “Train, because you’ll want to be as prepared in your body as you possibly can because it only gets harder as the job goes on. And really understand how to be able to go to the bathroom in your suit.” The first Captain Marvel, it was a 45-minute thing to get me in and out of that costume.
