‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the most recent installment in the franchise. Even before release the show was highly controversial and was seemingly doomed to fail. Things got so much worse when the first episodes started releasing and the lack of quality was noticed by fans and critics alike. Despite having an incredible budget, the show delivered something altogether different.
‘The Acolyte’ was officially canceled a few days ago, and several social movements started forming. #SaveTheAcolyte started trending on X, and a petition was started on Change.org to plead with Disney not to cancel the show.
In the fallout, some cast members like Amandla Stenberg who played Osha/Mae are being harassed online while some cast members like Manny Jacinto and Lee Jung-jae are being praised with plenty of fans wanting to see them in future installments if Star Wars ever ventures into the High Republic territory again.
So what does Keanu Reeves have to do with ‘The Acolyte’? If the recent insider reports put forward by Jeffrey Sneider are to be believed Keanu Reeves almost played Master Sol, one of the main roles that ultimately went to Lee Jung-jae, whose portrayal of the character received nothing but praise.
Master Sol is eventually killed in the last episode of ‘The Acolyte’ by his former Padawan Osha as she turns to the dark side.
Naturally, fans breathed a sigh of relief since having ‘The Acolyte’ on his resume wouldn’t bode so well for the actor, but also because killing him off in the show would mean that he can’t appear in future Star Wars installments. Sneider also reported that Reeves is still being considered for a role in the franchise, and judging the actor’s previous roles and his overall demeanor he would be perfect as Jedi, any Jedi.
Interestingly enough, Reeves would be the second ‘The Matrix’ actor in the show as his co-star Carrie-Anne Moss played the role of Jedi Master Indara. Indara met her end during the opening sequences of episode 1, a highly controversial decision on the part of the showrunner, only to resurface again through flashbacks in episode 7.
