Kevin Feige Confirms Mahershala Ali Will Star as Blade Despite Production Delays

Marvel’s highly anticipated Blade reboot, starring Mahershala Ali, has faced several setbacks, but Kevin Feige, head of the MCU, reassured fans that the project is still moving forward.

Despite delays and changes in the director’s chair, Feige is committed to bringing this iconic character back to the big screen.

“We’re committed to Blade. We love the character and Mahershala’s vision of him. Rest assured, we always update our audience when we shift directions or are figuring out how a project fits into our schedule,” Feige explained.

First announced in 2019, Blade has faced numerous delays and was even removed from Marvel’s release calendar at one point.

The project has undergone significant changes, including multiple script rewrites and shifts in key production staff. The film lost its director, Yann Demange, due to creative differences with star Mahershala Ali, marking the second time the film has been without a director.

Prior to Demange, director Bassim Tariq also exited the project, and actor Aaron Pierre was removed from the cast.

Despite these challenges, the film still stars Mia Goth and the legendary Delroy Lindo alongside Ali. The screenplay has seen several revisions, including one by Beau DeMayo of X-Men ’97, which featured a storyline set in the 1920s exploring themes of slavery. The most recent draft was written by Eric Pearson.

Blade, a half-vampire, half-human vampire hunter, was originally brought to the big screen by Wesley Snipes in the early 2000s, before the MCU’s rise.

Snipes’ portrayal of Blade was widely praised, making the films a favorite among action fans. He even made a memorable cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, famously declaring, “There has only been one Blade, there will only be one Blade.”

Currently, there is no set release date for the Blade reboot, leaving fans eagerly awaiting any updates on when they can see Mahershala Ali take on this iconic role.
