Knull Could Have Made Carnage and Gorr Far Better Villains, Here’s Why

‘Venom: The Last Dance’ premieres today worldwide, but based on early critics’ reactions, the movie is one more mediocre installment in the franchise. Initially, fans were extremely excited about the movie, in large part due to Knull, the King in Black, being teased.
As we’ve suspected, the movie’s writer and director Kelly Marcel eventually stated that Knull won’t be the main villain of the movie. He does have a future in front of him in the cinematic universe – but so far it’s unknown whether that would be in SSU or MCU.
A recent set of rumors however teased, that this is more likely to be in the MCU than Sony’s own universe as Knull is set to be the main villain of the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ flick.
Knull has several important connections to two characters that have already appeared in both the MCU and the SSU – Gorr the God Butcher and Carnage – and quite frankly if these characters were still present in their respective universe the appearance of Knull would have set them up for a major comeback.
Carnage died during the events of ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ while Gorr debuted and died in Thor’s recent movie ‘Love and Thunder.’ Both movies were panned and the way in which Gorr and Carnage were portrayed was heavily criticized by fans, especially Gorr who was basically turned into a joke.
Both Gorr and Carnage are bad guys meant to be really scary and dangerous, like in the comics where they are huge threats. Gorr is one of Thor’s biggest enemies, and Carnage is Venom’s main foe. However, in their movies, they only killed a few people and didn’t last long before they were defeated.
If they hadn’t died, they could have played big roles in Knull’s story. Carnage could have been a major villain in ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ and Gorr could have met the creator of his weapon in the MCU. This could have connected with Spider-Man’s journey after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Instead, Gorr didn’t really become a true God Butcher like he was supposed to in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’
Carnage still has hopes to return, as the character was seemingly spotted in one of the teasers for ‘Venom 3’ fueling theories that he will cross over to the MCU with Knull (which would make sense).
The thing is, symbiotes are extremely difficult to kill due to the hive mind. They can easily cross even the most insurmountable obstacles including dimensions, so Carnage’s resurrection in a different universe can be completely ruled out.
As far as Gorr goes. Well, this one is far harder to play off. Yes ‘Thor 5’ is currently in development according to insider reports, but it’s unlikely that the studio will revisit that particular villain or spend time referencing a villain that was so hated by the fans. It’s far likelier that the studio wants to forget about Gorr – like us.
Knull can still happen across All-Black, but it’s unlikely that Gorr will return to the MCU. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
