Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is not off to a good start this year, as the cinematic universe opened 2024 with a majestic flop ‘Madame Web.’ Luckily there are ample opportunities to turn this around since there are two notable releases awaiting us this year, ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ and the final installment of the ‘Venom’ franchise.
Yes, you’ve read that correctly, ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is the final ‘Venom’ movie in the franchise and today, the final trailer dropped, showcasing something that could be expected considering an overwhelming number of symbiotes teased for the movie, but still it surprised many fans.
In the trailer, a “man” with long hair on a throne can be seen, who bears a striking resemblance to the King of Symbiotes himself, Knull.
Knull is an eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes. He emerged from the primordial void and waged war against the Celestials after they brought light into his realm. Rejecting his role as the King in Black, he forged the first symbiote as a sword, decapitating a Celestial and refining the blade with its divine power. Stranded on a nameless planet after losing his weapon, Knull discovered his ability to bond with lesser creatures through amorphous parasites, establishing his control over the symbiotes and becoming a figure of cosmic terror.
He is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel comics, and one of the most terrifying at the same time, as everything connected to him is pure horror. Due to this, plenty of fans were somewhat disappointed that Sony was taking a go at him, due to Sony’s bad track record of handling Spider-Man’s supporting characters – and well, other characters that they have rights to:
Yes, be afraid, be very afraid. Although plenty of fans expected Knull to be incorporated into the MCU somewhere down the line, considering that Gorr is already in the MCU, I guess that won’t happen any time soon, which is a missed opportunity to dedicate an entire saga to him.
‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is set for release in the United States on October 25, 2024, in IMAX and other premium large formats. Initially slated for an October 2024 release, it was rescheduled for July 12, 2024, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Following the strike’s conclusion, the release was postponed to November 8, 2024, before being brought forward again to the original October 2024 timeframe.
