Several months ago news broke out that the casting process for the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot has been completed Pedro Pascal will be MCU’s new Reed Richards, with Vanessa Kirby taking on the role of Sue Storm. The Thing and the Human Torch will be played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn respectively.

Yesterday, we got a confirmation that Julia Garner would be playing a female version of Silver Surfer for the movie, Shalla-Bal, which is mostly associated with being Norrin Radd’s love interest in the comics.

The reactions from the fans were mixed at best, with some infuriated that Marvel Studios is “genderbending” yet another notable character from the comics, and the rest of the fanbase pointing out that the character was always female and that it is a welcome spin on the character. In light of these reactions, LaKeith Stanfield voiced out his opinion via his private Instagram account posting:

Thought it was going to be me but ig

The post has since been deleted.

We don’t know the context surrounding his post as he is certainly implying that he was in the running to play the character, however it was known for quite some time now that MCU’s Silver Surfer would be female. There’s also the possibility that he was simply trolling.

Even without him joining the MCU, his career will most certainly be fine. Stanfield’s acting career began with a role in the short film ‘Short Term 12,’ directed by Destin Daniel Cretton as a thesis project at San Diego State University. The film won the Jury Award for U.S. Short Filmmaking at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Despite working various jobs such as roofing and gardening, and positions at AT&T and a legal marijuana dispensary, Stanfield maintained his aspirations of acting.

He was later contacted by Cretton to reprise his role in a feature-length adaptation of ‘Short Term 12,’ which marked his first feature film role. During production, Stanfield practiced method acting, isolating himself from other cast members to embody his character fully. The film received acclaim, winning the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature at the 2013 South by Southwest Film Festival, and Stanfield received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. He had several notable roles after that launching him into stardom.
