‘Legacy of Vader’ #2 Reveals Watto’s Fate – And It’s Not What You Think!

Last month, Star Wars fans were shocked by the idea that Darth Vader may have killed Watto, the Toydarian junk dealer who once owned Anakin Skywalker. However, the new issue of Legacy of Vader has revealed a surprising twist.

In Legacy of Vader #2, Kylo Ren travels to Tatooine as part of his journey to erase the past. He visits Watto’s old junkyard, now abandoned, and assumes that Vader must have returned and killed him.

To Kylo, this fits the image he has of his grandfather—a ruthless Sith who erased his past. But this is just Kylo’s assumption, not the truth.

Vaneé, Vader’s former attendant, tells Kylo that Vader never killed Watto. In fact, what actually happened to Watto remains unknown. He could have died from other causes, left Tatooine, or simply disappeared. The comic does not confirm his fate—only that Vader did not return to take revenge.

This twist highlights the theme of Legacy of Vader: how history is shaped by stories and perspectives, not just facts. Kylo Ren wants to shape Vader’s legacy to fit his own needs, but the truth is more complex. Some things in Star Wars are best left as mysteries, and sometimes, not knowing is more interesting than having a definite answer.
