Leslye Headland Does Have an Idea on How to Connect ‘The Acolyte’ to Darth Plagueis and Palpatine: “It’s pretty complicated and messy”

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is a special show for several reasons. First, it’s the first and so far only live-action Star Wars show set during the High Republic Era. It’s also one of the most polarizing shows in the franchise, with some fans considering it the best live-action show, and some considering it the worst.

Due to the unique setting of the show, not many fans were hoping to see (or hear references) to characters they’ve seen in live-action, with the exception being Ki-Adi-Mundi, whose cameo caused more problems than it resolved.

Considering that the show takes place 100 years before ‘The Phantom Menace’ this is a point in Star Wars’ timeline when Sith are considered to be extinct by the Jedi order. The show still introduced Qimir aka The Stranger, with some major additions to the canon. Now since Headland was teasing that there is one more Sith in the show, who is so far secret. Fans started developing theories and connecting Qimir to Darth Tenebrous, and Darth Plagueis, which would inevitably lead to Palpatine, who is the most notable Sith Lord as far as the majority of the fanbase is concerned.

During her latest interview for Nerdist, Leslye Headland, the creator of the show was asked whether she knows how the story of ‘The Acolyte’ could lead to Darth Plagueis training Palpatine, and she gave an honest answer: she does have an idea how to connect the Acolyte with that period, but it would be complicated and messy.

Yes, I do. If I continue to get to tell this story, I know how I would like that to play out. And I would say I think it’s pretty complicated and messy.

So far fans have been hoping to see at least one Sith mentioned in EU as Headland drew heavily from these source materials, however with only one episode left in the first season, it seems extremely unlikely that the show will touch upon those themes.

Season 2 was teased by the creator, however, she revealed that no decision has been made as of yet, although ideally ‘The Acolyte’ would get at least 4 seasons, and that leaves her with plenty of time to actually adapt all these fan theories.
