Leslye Headland on Including Yoda in ‘The Acolyte’ and Breaking Some Rules: “I just thought… I mean, it’s my show”

Last week the finale of ‘The Acolyte’ was released. All loose ends were wrapped up nicely, and the show teased two massive cameos setting decent grounds for potential season 2 of the show.

Back when Headland was first asked, even before the show premiered, whether Yoda would be included in the show she gave us pretty much a non-answer on how “it would be cool if they could use the character.”

Fans’ dreams did come true when the character was teased during the last few seconds of episode 8. Master Vernestra Rwoh can be seen approaching what appears to be Yoda. We never see the character’s face and he is never addressed as Yoda, but the intention is clear.

In her recent interview with Inverse, Leslye Headland commented on Yoda’s cameo, the fact that she had to fight to include him in the show, and the fact that Yoda is being marketed as someone who will help Vernestra Rwoh solve her little problem with her fallen apprentice internally.

Yeah, there was the logistics of it all for sure. But then there were some, I’d say almost spiritual conversations about using such an iconic character. I felt strongly about it because I felt that to me, Vernestra was in a situation that was so heightened and really needed to be taken care of internally. She was already feeling this pressure of, “If you don’t have a suspect, then we have a real problem.” Rayencourt suggests the internal review of the Jedi, obviously at the small council, but Chancellor Drellik doesn’t doesn’t confirm or deny that request. It felt like she had to report to her superior and let him know what’s up, and probably tell him about what happened between her and her padawan.

Headland also explained that this is not the first time that Yoda has been covering up stuff:

In The Clone Wars Season 6 it’s revealed that he covered up the creation of the clone army and asked everybody to not say who was behind it. So it just felt to me that there was something fun to explore there if we were allowed to talk about, and to do more seasons. There was a large conversation about including him. But I just thought… I mean, it’s my show.

If ‘The Acolyte’ ends up getting a second season, fans are likely expecting both him and Plagueis to play a more active role in the show.
