‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise. Even before the show aired it was a bit controversial due to some statements, not completely related to Star Wars, made by the cast and crew.

Things got only more confusing & controversial when the show was released. It was simultaneously both review-bombed by angry fans and review-boosted by critics. The show currently holds an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and 13% by audience, losing yet another point this week, alongside losing 31% of “minutes watched” statistics.

Sure some of these minutes lost can be attributed to the shorter-than-usual 30-minute episode 4, but for the most part, losing audience (and scores) started with the release of episode 3, and culminated in episode 4 with instances of canon-breaking.

Now obviously, this is not a good look for the show, and fans are wondering about its future. Several weeks ago, Rayne Roberts, producer of the show teased that season 2 is already in development.

“We’ve got to get back into the writers’ room for season 2 to see where we’re at. We have some initial thoughts about what we want to do, but in terms of where the story will ultimately wrap up, that hasn’t been quite nailed down yet.”

This was before the release itself, so we don’t know whether these plans are still currently in motion. In one of her interviews with Collider, Leslye Headland revealed that she does have a number of seasons she would like to get in mind, and I have to admit It sounds a bit optimistic, especially her “dream number.”

At least three, […] This is my dream job. I’m saying three because I’m hoping they’ll allow me to do that, but if I could snap my fingers, it would just be, this is my job until I retire. I actually can’t think of a higher creative or career peak than working on Star Wars. So, I really am good. I don’t really need to do anything else.

Amandla Stenberg, the star of the show and the actress behind both Osha and Mae said similar things, revealing that this is her ideal role and she wouldn’t mind if this was her only job ever.

I would be chill if this was, like, my only job for a long time.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ still has time to recover, we’re only halfway through the show and the last two episodes were rather slow-paced with minimal action. We’ll see what’s to come in the coming weeks.
