‘Thunderbolts*’ is one of the most exciting upcoming releases. The movie will gather a new team of former villains and anti-heroes, as well as introduce one of Marvel’s most powerful superheroes – Sentry.
Sentry will be played by Lewis Pullman, and we’ve already gotten a hint regarding his invincibility in the trailers. We also know that Sentry will seemingly be a manufactured superhero, and we can expect the former Avenger’s Tower to be redesigned into his Watchtower.
While we can’t expect a 1:1 adaptation of Sentry, mostly due to the fact that he is extremely overpowered, Lewis Pullman recently shed some light on the character’s moral alignment and it seems that aspect of the character will be somewhat comic accurate.
Pullman was recently asked by GamesRadar+ team whether his character will be a hero or a villain in the larger MCU, and the actor gave us an interesting answer:
God, I would love to know. I genuinely, I don’t know. It’s one of the exciting parts about being invited into the whole universe is there’s a lot of unknowns, and you just kind of got to go with the flow and embrace the unknowns of it all. But I would enjoy going in either direction. I can say that.

Sentry is a relatively “young” character. Before he was a force of nature Robert Bob Reynolds was a meth addict who broke into a professor’s laboratory and discovered the Golden Sentry Serum. After consuming it, he gained incredible powers, comparable to “a million exploding suns.” Golden Sentry Serum is a version of Super Soldier Serum but its properties are enhanced a hundred thousand times over.
At first, Sentry sought to use his abilities for good. He fought alongside the Avengers and other heroes to protect humanity and fight villains hence why started calling himself Sentry. His desire to do good and help others is a significant aspect of his character.
But, there’s a catch, there’s always a catch. One of Sentry’s primary struggles and weaknesses is his connection to the Void, a dark and malevolent aspect of his psyche that embodies his fears, insecurities, and darker impulses. The Void often manifests as a villainous force, causing destruction and chaos, which complicates Sentry’s identity.
Sentry literally has two personalities within him, and you can’t really know whether he is on your side or not. To make matters worse, while in his Void form, Sentry is significantly stronger.
Even before he became Sentry, Reynolds had a plethora of mental illnesses like agoraphobia, anxiety disorder, and schizophrenia, this didn’t translate well when he became a superhero and his mental state was long considered to be one of his weaknesses as well.
If MCU, manages to portray Sentry’s “split” personality well, I believe we are in for a treat. Pullman’s comments recently sound like it!
