Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun are teaming up for a sci-fi romance like no other in Love Me, set to premiere in theaters on January 31. Written and directed by Sam and Andy Zuchero, the film brings an unusual love story to the big screen, centered on a buoy and a satellite who navigate life after humanity’s extinction.
The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where Earth has long been abandoned by humans. Stewart voices a buoy named Me, later known as Deja, while Yeun portrays a satellite called Iam, who later adopts the name Liam. Despite being miles apart, the two characters connect through the remnants of the internet.
Together, they explore what it means to be alive, forming a digital friendship that evolves into something much deeper. Using internet footage, they create a virtual world together and eventually transform into human avatars.

The Zucheros’ debut feature blends live-action, animatronics, and classic animation to craft a story that feels intimate and grand at the same time. “We wanted to make a movie that would make you feel big and small at the same time,” the Zucheros explained. They described the project as both a love story and a reflection on human connection in a disconnected world.
Kristen Stewart shared her enthusiasm for the project during the Sundance Film Festival, where Love Me debuted. “The movie’s about everyone—our projections, fears, and the way we present ourselves,” she said. For Stewart, playing Me was an opportunity to embody universal human experiences through a very unconventional character.
Love Me earned the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at Sundance, an award recognizing films that incorporate science or technology themes. Despite the honor, early reviews have been mixed, with the movie holding a 47% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Zucheros expressed gratitude for Stewart and Yeun, calling them “true collaborators” who brought their vision to life with heart and dedication.
This isn’t the only project on the horizon for the film’s stars. Kristen Stewart also stars in the upcoming road trip comedy Sacramento, while Steven Yeun will appear in Bong Joon-ho’s much-anticipated sci-fi film Mickey 17.
With its inventive premise and heartfelt performances, Love Me promises to offer a fresh take on romance and identity when it hits theaters later this month.
