Andrew Garfield starred as Spider-Man in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (2012) and its sequel, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ (2014). While his performance as Peter Parker was praised for its charm and emotional depth, the films received mixed reviews.
Critics felt the first film was solid but too similar to the original ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, while the sequel was criticized for its overcrowded storylines and lack of focus. Despite this, Garfield’s Spider-Man gained a loyal fanbase, and his return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (2021) was widely celebrated.
Besides the rumors of Garfield returning to the MCU as Spider-Man again, the actor will play a role in Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller ‘After the Hunt.’
The star and the director recently sat down to discuss the movie and it turned to Garfield’s past role as the webslinger. At the Marrakech Film Festival, Andrew Garfield shared that he works hard to avoid being constantly asked about Spider-Man. He joked that it’s still an ongoing process, but he’s grateful for his time in the superhero role.
Garfield believes playing Spider-Man helped him get opportunities to work with great directors like Martin Scorsese.
Luca Guadagnino, after hearing Garfield talk about Spider-Man, shared that he finds Spider-Man to be a “fascinating superhero,” and revealed his surprising dream to direct Garfield’s ‘Spider-Man’ movies:
I remember when Sam Raimi directed his first one, and I was 28 or 29, I had these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac, and I wished I had been asked to do one. So I wish I had directed you in ‘Spider-Man,’

‘Spider-Man 4’ is currently in development, with production starting sometime in 2025. The director of the upcoming movie will be Destin Daniel Cretton who has plenty of experience in the cinematic universe.
However, rumors are that Garfield might make an appearance as a variant, if not in ‘Spider-Man 4’ than in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ installment, ‘Secret Wars.’
