‘Star Wars’ is currently in a weird state. Its last live-action project ‘The Acolyte’ bombed and was canceled after 8 episodes. The upcoming project bound to be released in December, ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is not generating as much hype as the studio wanted and presumably is facing its own set of problems behind the scenes.
Recently, a new Star Wars trilogy was announced being penned by Simon Kinberg, the reactions to this announcement were not good at all.
Still there are plenty of live-action projects in development, and industry insider Daniel Richtman recently provided alleged updates on all of them via his private patreon account.
Now let’s start with Mangold’s movie which is supposed to retell the origins of the Jedi and the Force.
At Celebration Europe on April 7, 2023, it was confirmed that Mangold would direct a Star Wars film about the origins of the Jedi. He revealed that the film, titled “Dawn of the Jedi,” would explore the formation and discovery of The Force, aiming for an epic feel similar to “The Ten Commandments” and “Ben-Hur.” Mangold used these classic films to convince Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy of the project’s potential.
I thought about a biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments and the dawning of the Force. Where did the Force come from? When did we discover it? When did we know how to use it? And a story just started developing.James Mangold
Now if Richtman is to be believed this movie will begin filming next year, with other details so far unknown.
The second piece of news is related to Rey’s standalone movie which sort of seems to be in development hell in the last few months. The writer, Steven Knight, recently even exited the production after working on the script for a few months. Richtman now reports that the movie did find a new writer but the details are so far unknown on who it might be.
As far as ‘Ahsoka’ goes, the show was moderately successful, and the development of the second season was announced a few months after the first season wrapped. Richtman now claims that ‘Ahsoka’ season 2 is being “built” like it’s the last season in case the show doesn’t get renewed for subsequent seasons.
This one sounds quite worrying, but then again it’s better to get an earlier ending than no ending at all if the show gets canceled.
Lastly, Richtman claims that a movie directed by Dave Filoni is preparing for production in 2026. The movie is notable for being set during the New Republic Era. The film will show a battle between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnants, and it will wrap up the storylines from ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ ‘Ahsoka,’ and other related Disney+ shows.
