‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the most recent Star Wars installment. The show has crashed and burned after 8 episodes being canceled by Disney. Not a single person was surprised by this turn of events. The show was way too expensive taking into account an obvious lack of quality, it was also filled with logical inconsistencies, poor writing, poor acting, and overall bad pacing.
However, the aspect that Disney most cares about, the viewers, also failed to deliver as industry insiders reveal, it was canceled due to a low viewership and not due to overall hateful backlash online.
One of the best aspects of the show however was its secondary villain Qimir. Qimir was at first introduced as Mae’s mysterious and somewhat clumsy friend. Ever since the beginning, it was obvious that he was the Sith Lord that’s been training her, but it worked out in the end.
Qimir, as a Sith Lord, proved he was especially brutal when he eliminated almost all Jedi on Khofar that stood in the way of his freedom. He was equipped with a new never-before-seen weapon in live-action and had a helmet made of Cortosis, a nod to EU.
Qimir was a huge reason why fans wanted to see a season 2 of the show, especially in light of the final episode when it was teased that he was trained by Darth Plagueis, an Ancient Sith Lord otherwise known to train Palpatine aka Darth Sidious.
Recently, the actor behind Qimir, Manny Jacinto spoke during the Dragon Con panel, and when asked what his life goal is, the actor revealed it’s the second season of ‘The Acolyte.’ The answer was met with applause and cheers:
Despite the show being canceled, a fan petition to renew ‘The Acolyte’ on Change.org is going quite strong with over 66, 000 signatures. Fan petitions were known to work in the past, but considering ‘The Acolyte’s’ budget, in this case, it has little chance of working.
On the other hand, the petition to de-canonize ‘The Acolyte’ and by extension, remove Qimir’s Sith Lord from being officially canon is also growing rapidly, currently standing at more than 18,000 signatures.
