Kevin Feige appeared live virtually at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, where he discussed the future of the MCU and teased the upcoming release of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ next year.
Feige expressed excitement about bringing Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four, into the MCU after a long wait. He mentioned that the film wraps next week and that the characters will play a role in the upcoming Avengers movies.
Finally, [we’re] bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. They wrap next week, the movie comes out next summer, and then all those characters go right into the next Avengers movies, so I’m very excited for the future of the Fantastic Four.
The cast and crew of the ‘First Steps’ have only recently arrived in Oviedo, Spain to film the last scenes for the movie. During their visit, Matt Shakman surprised local fans with a surprise appearance at the local comic book shop Hangar Rebelde.
Feige also addressed the 2025 release that will introduce yet another iconic team to the MCU, ‘Thunderbolts*’ starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour, among others.
He described Thunderbolts as “what Marvel is all about.”
It’s taking characters from all different types of places and franchises and putting them together. That’s what the Avengers is, that’s what Guardians of the Galaxy is.”
Feige also shared his excitement about bringing the X-Men into the MCU, saying that fans will see familiar X-Men characters in upcoming movies. He hinted that ‘Secret Wars’ will pave the way for a new era of mutants and the X-Men, calling it a “dream come true” to finally have them in the MCU.
I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.
The head of Marvel Studios recently called ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ the start of the mutant era in the MCU, and now he took the opportunity to praise the movie, and one specific moment from the film that he has waited his whole life for:
When we first started working on the film for the first time, we wanted to see Wolverine in a yellow costume. I had goosebumps on set when he walked out wearing that costume and put on that mask for the first time. I’ve been waiting 25 years to bring that to life. We were very excited to see Ryan Reynolds bring the R rating to Disney. It was fun — the heart and the humor.
