Hawkeye is one of the most popular characters in both Marvel Comics and the MCU. Despite not having any special superpowers, his skill, determination, and relatable personality instantly make him a fan-favorite across all media.

Clint Barton might be the most popular Hawkeye, again both in the comics and in the MCU but he is far from the only one.

The recent ‘Ultimates’ release introduced a new variant of Hawkeye hailing from Earth-6160 aka Ultimate Universe. ‘Ultimates’ #5 (Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri) introduced Charli Ramsey, a non-binary and Two-Spirit Native American.

He is not the main Hawkeye in the comics, but considering Ultimate Universe’s popularity, he is certainly a welcome addition to the roster of superheroes.

Charli Ramsey, a member of the Oglala Band of the Lakota Nation, grew up resentful of the world around them, particularly Roxxon Energy Partners, due to their father’s obsession with classic westerns.

In January 2024, they found abandoned equipment meant for Clint Barton, the original Hawkeye, who had declined the role. Seeing this as a sign of their destiny, Charli adopted the name “Hawkeye” and began disrupting Roxxon’s operations.

After a confrontation with Captain America sent by Tony Stark, the two teamed up to defeat Roxxon’s Cleanup Crew, earning Cap’s trust in the process.

The writer Deniz Camp explained Charli’s gender identity in great detail on his social media. Camp explained that Charli’s pronouns are they/them, but they chose not to highlight this prominently in the story.

This decision was made because it felt true to Charli’s character not to focus on their pronouns within the narrative. However, Camp clarifies that they will make Charli’s non-binary identity explicit when it naturally fits into the story, ensuring it’s part of the character without being forced or made into a central issue.
