Marvel Possibly Developing Theatrical Animated Film Tied To ‘X-Men ’97’

Despite the controversies and changes to the established series canon, X-Men ’97 proved to be a major success for Marvel. It offered a nostalgic throwback to fans of the original series, retained its classic animation style without major updates, and featured a compelling storyline.

Marvel’s satisfaction with the series has led to the announcement of a second season, much to the delight of fans. However, recent rumors suggest that Marvel’s plans extend beyond just the series. According to the latest speculation, Marvel is working on a feature-length animated film slated for a theatrical release. While details about the film remain under wraps, there’s buzz that it might be connected to the X-Men ’97 project, which could be incredibly exciting!

With the buzz surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine and a series of major announcements—including RDJ’s return—the Marvel rumor mill has been exceptionally active lately. According to The Cosmic Circus podcast, Marvel is reportedly developing a significant animated project that may be linked to the X-Men ’97 series.

Titan: Do you see a possibility of Marvel Studios theatrically releasing an animated film next saga?

Alex: Oh absolutely. They’re working on a Marvel Animation project set for theatrical release. However, I have no idea what the project itself is. My guess would be X-Men ‘97.

Jace: Any word on other future Marvel animated projects that could be happening?

Alex: The ones we currently know about are the main focus for now. That we don’t know about? I heard a rumor about an Eternals series stylized as an anime, but that was still in a pitching stage last I heard.

Din Djarin: Do you think there’s a good possibility they combine the horde and the annihilation wave in the future for if/when Annihilus is introduced?

Alex: I know the Horde exists in the MCU, but they’re inactive. Their first appearance will be in Eyes of Wakanda.

Wade: Do you know if season 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man is still happening?

Alex: Yes, it’s still in development.
