Silver Surfer is one of the most notable characters in Marvel Comics, so it was weird that the MCU waited 17 years to introduce the character to the big screen. As you are likely familiar Silver Surfer will debut in ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ scheduled to be released next year.
The Surfer in question will be Shalla-Bal played by Julia Garner. The announcement has been met with numerous criticisms and fan backlash, as fans were hoping that the MCU’s main Silver Surfer will be the character most notable for carrying the mantle – Norrin Radd.
Still, according to several subsequent industry leaks and reports, Shalla-Bal won’t be the only Silver Surfer in the movie, and her role is reportedly “one and done” meaning that her time in the MCU is limited.
If true, this isn’t surprising at all, Feige already confirmed that ‘Fantastic Four’ will take place in an alternate reality, meaning that MCU’s true Silver Surfer won’t debut until later, and judging by rumors it won’t be Julia Garner.
Now according to Daniel Richtman popular industry leaker and scooper, MCU is currently actively developing a project focusing on Silver Surfer. It’s unknown whether the project will focus on Radd or Shalla-Bal.
The producer for the project is set to be Matt Shakman who left the ‘Star Trek’ production to direct ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ after Jon Watts left the production.
As I’ve already mentioned, the chances are big according to our speculation that it’s going to focus on Norrin Radd if Garner’s role truly ends up being “one and done.”
It’s also unknown whether ‘Fantastic Four’s’ Silver Surfer will be portrayed as a hero or a villain, considering that Galactus is also set to debut in the movie, played by Ralph Ineson.
