Marvel Studios Teases Potential Return of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage & Iron Fist

With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil officially returning in Daredevil: Born Again, fans have been wondering if the rest of The Defenders could also make a comeback. Now, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has provided an update on the potential return of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Winderbaum revealed that Marvel is actively looking into bringing back these fan-favorite characters.

“I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum said. “Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it.”

He elaborated further, explaining the challenges of bringing these characters back into the fold.

“It’s dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”

Before Disney+ became the home for Marvel’s streaming projects, the studio collaborated with Netflix to create a series of shows based on street-level heroes. Cox starred as Matt Murdock in Daredevil, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. Jessica Jones, starring Krysten Ritter, had three seasons between 2015 and 2019. Mike Colter’s Luke Cage lasted two seasons from 2016 to 2018, while Finn Jones’ Iron Fist also ran for two seasons from 2017 to 2018.

All four heroes eventually teamed up in The Defenders, a limited series released in 2017. However, after Netflix canceled the shows, Marvel Studios shifted its focus to creating original content for Disney+, leaving the future of these characters uncertain.

Despite the uncertainty, Krysten Ritter has remained vocal about her interest in reprising her role as Jessica Jones.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, Marvel’s willingness to revisit these characters has given fans hope. If Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist do return, it could open the door for a full-fledged Defenders revival within the MCU.

For now, all eyes are on Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to premiere soon and could provide more clues about the future of these beloved heroes.
