Hulk is one of the most powerful superheroes in the comics, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get a power upgrade from time to time. This is exactly what’s going to happen as the ‘What If..?’ series of one-shot stories expands.

Instead of Norrin Radd becoming the Silver Surfer, Galactus will use his cosmic power to transform Bruce Banner into the Herald Hulk: Smasher of the Spaceways.

The story, published on January 1, 2025, is written by Matthew Groom, with art by Lan Medina and a cover by Ron Lim. The official synopsis is as follows:

The first in a new series of one-shots that asks the question: What if Galactus recruited some of Marvel’s best and brightest heroes as his new cosmic heralds? See how the Power Cosmic transforms these once-familiar champions, twisting and turning all of Marvel history in their wake!

In this tale, Galactus has conscripted Earth’s strongest warrior – the Incredible Hulk – into his service. But what will turn out to be the bigger mistake: trying to direct the fury of the Green Goliath…or giving the great mind of Bruce Banner a cosmic problem to solve?

Hulk is not the only unusual herald that Galactus will have in ‘What If…?’ stories, as Gambit, Moon Knight, Rogue, and Ghost Spider will get the honors in the new series as well.

Hulk is just the first of many amazing heralds to come.

‘What If…? Galactus Transformed Hulk?’ #1 will be followed by issues featuring Gambit (by Josh Trujillo and Manuel Garcia), Moon Knight (by Alex Segura and Scot Eaton & Cam Smith), Rogue (by Ann Nocenti and Stephen Bryne), and Spider-Gwen (by Kalinda Vazquez and Daniel Picciotto), releasing weekly throughout January.
