‘Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay’ #4 was recently released and the zombie outbreak spread to the X-Men after affecting the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. The issue written by Thomas Krajewski, with artwork by Jason Muhr, shows several iconic X-Men becoming zombies and attacking Xavier’s School.
While Groot and Hulk try to stop the epidemic, the infection has already reached the mutants.
In the final moments of the issue, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Cyclops break into the X-Mansion, spreading the zombie virus. The sequel hasn’t been officially yet keep in mind but with a cliffhanger such as this one, it’s only a matter of time before we get more information.
In a suspenseful cliffhanger, Professor X and some young mutants hide in Cerebro while zombified X-Men attack. With four powerful mutants already infected, the next wave of the zombie virus could be even more dangerous. Storm and Charles Xavier are expected to play key roles in stopping the mutant zombie outbreak.
The zombie virus was certainly not an accident but was secretly started by someone with dark intentions, possibly an X-Men villain, and the true cause was a poisoned pen given to Captain America by General Ross. This means that the true villain behind the “apocalypse” is still on the loose and will be revealed in the sequel series.
As mentioned above, the series still wasn’t confirmed, but perhaps Marvel is waiting for the official launch of ‘Marvel Zombies’ animated “event” on Disney+ to kick off the hype.
The upcoming series features a cast including Awkwafina, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Randall Park, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Dominique Thorne, and Iman Vellani, who will reprise their MCU roles, along with Todd Williams.
The show, announced in November 2021, is a spin-off continuing the events of “What If… Zombies?!” and will premiere on Disney+ on October 3, 2025, with four episodes as part of MCU Phase Six.
