Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga continues to grow, with its latest chapter, The Penguin, recently wrapping up. The show focused on Oz Cobb’s rise to power after Carmine Falcone’s death in The Batman: Part I.
While fans were initially unsure about giving The Penguin his own series, those doubts disappeared once the first episode aired.
Viewers quickly praised the show for its dark, grounded tone and standout performances from Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.
Now that the season has ended and Oz’s arc is complete, fans are naturally curious about a potential second season. With Reeves’ version of Oz proving to be such a compelling character, there’s plenty of room to dive deeper into his backstory or explore his next moves in Gotham’s criminal underworld.
Showrunner Lauren LeFranc recently talked about the possibility of a second season, admitting that it would be a challenge to meet the high bar set by the first. She explained they’d need to “top themselves” with the story to move forward but expressed excitement about potentially returning to Gotham City’s world.
Meanwhile, Matt Reeves revealed in a chat with Zoe Kravitz for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” that conversations about a second season are already happening with LeFranc. Reeves called working on the show a special experience and said he feels lucky to explore these iconic characters, which he believes “belong to the world.”
For Reeves, it’s all about finding a personal connection to the story when revisiting these characters.
Yeah, we’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season. That was a special experience. I just feel really fortunate. These characters don’t belong to me; they belong to the world. It comes down to whether you can approach them in a way that expresses something personal.
