‘Ironheart’ was one of the shows announced for 2025 release via Marvel Studios’ recent teaser trailer. The story of the show was described as a mix of magic and technology, and all vendettas coming to life.

Dominique Thorne stars as Riri Williams/Ironheart, an MIT student and genius inventor who creates a suit rivaling Iron Man’s. Anthony Ramos plays Parker Robbins/The Hood, a complex ally of Riri who uses dark arts and magic.

The cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Lyric Ross as Riri’s best friend Natalie, and Anji White as Riri’s mother. Other notable actors like Shea Couleé, Jim Rash (reprising his role as the Dean of MIT), and Sacha Baron Cohen will also appear, and Cohen is heavily rumored to portray Mephisto.

Since Riri first appeared in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ we knew that the MCU has found its replacement for Iron Man. Well, not a replacement in the true sense of the word, but rather a character that will serve the same function – deliver some kickass mecha action.

The latest teaser trailer for the show showcased some of that action and showcased some first glimpses of Riri’s suit. It’s definitely something we haven’t seen in a long time in the MCU. The suit is homemade, bulky aaaand it reminds us of Tony’s humble origins.

The initial Iron Man suits, particularly the Mark I and subsequent versions, were bulky and had a rugged, handmade appearance. They felt like real metal armor, reflecting Tony Stark’s early journey as a character who built his suits from scraps in a cave.

The newer suits, especially those utilizing nanotechnology, have a sleeker, more polished look. They often appear smoother and more streamlined, resembling advanced, high-tech armor rather than something physically constructed.

It seems that we will relive those aspects of the MCU again. The original suits, through their design and overall look, contributed to a sense of struggle and effort. The process of building and using them was a critical part of Tony Stark’s character development, emphasizing his ingenuity and determination.

It seems that Riri will have to be determined as well, and will struggle as well in turn making the character more grounded and relatable. Riri perhaps won’t go through the same struggles as Tony (and that’s a good thing) but we will still be able to witness that raw emotion that Riri feels when she is creating something.

Tony’s latter suits were extremely badass but you can feel there’s no real emotional connection between them and the wearer. Ironheart will return some of that magic back, and in a grand way- and the key to it is a bulky homemade suit!
