MCU Is Bringing Us One of the Biggest Storylines That Will Connect Directly to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

The last few days have been massive for the fans of the MCU. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has been released, which Feige teased is the start of the “mutant era” in the MCU. There was also Marvel Studios’ SDCC panel which revealed the title of ‘Avengers 5’ and presented Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

Considering everything that’s been teased in the last few days, and everything we know regarding scoops and leaks, we think we have a pretty good idea with ‘Secret Wars’ and everything preceding it will be about.

The Multiverse and Incursions have so far been the main focus of the MCU, and it’s extremely likely that the ‘Time Runs Out’ storyline is being set up before our eyes which will inevitably lead to ‘Secret Wars’ just like in the comics. So what are the arguments?

In the comics, during the ‘Time Runs Out’ event the Earth is threatened by the so-called Incursions, the events which set up Earth-616 on a collision course with alternate realities. These Incursions are the result of Beyonders’ attempts to destroy the multiverse. The Illuminati, who at this point are forbidden from existing, form a series of highly unethical plans to destroy the worlds that were about to collide with Earth-616. These plans included using Infinity Gauntlet, and several highly destructive weapons designed by the members of the factions.

The Illuminati themselves are torn by an internal conflict and they are set up to fight the Avengers (a complicated storyline that’s been brewing for quite some time). Their plans destroy and extinguish gazillions of lives, as several key players each attempt to pursue their own goals and petty revenge in the meantime.

In any case, ‘Time Runs Out’ Storyline ends with Marvel’s Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) eventually colliding with Earth-616 and destroying both realities.

The story continues in ‘Secret Wars’ as we see God Emperor Doom taking the power from the Beyonders and creating a new reality – Battleworld, from the remnants of the destroyed Multiverse.

So how does this connect to the MCU? Incursions and the Illuminati were already introduced in the MCU. The Illuminati were teased during ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and although Wanda made a quick work of them, the faction is likely to resurface again.

In the MCU, Incursions are thought to be the result of Multiversal travel, during the events of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Kang claims that multiversal war between his variants has threatened the stability of the universe and caused incursions, although, since MCU is dropping Kang it’s likely that this story would be somewhat changed as well.

Now X-Men and the Fantastic Four exist in separate realities from the MCU, which was confirmed during this year’s SDCC and during the events of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ will take place in alternate retro-futuristic New York and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ eventually ends with Deadpool ultimately saving Earth-10005. It’s clear that these incursions will eventually lead the Fantastic Four and the X-Men from Deadpool’s universe to the Sacred Timeline or Earth-616 since we don’t exactly have an “Ultimate Universe” in the MCU to collide with Earth-616 reality.

It’s also been confirmed that the Fantastic Four will be in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ since we need Reed Richards in both Time Runs Out and in Secret Wars, it only makes sense for the Fantastic Four to eventually end up on Earth-616 toward the end of the movie.

So where does Doctor Doom factor in all of this? Well, Doom will likely “attempt” to save the Multiverse during the events of ‘Doomsday,’ remember what Robert Downey Jr. said during SDCC “Same task, different mask.” Meaning that he will likely create the Battleworld during the events of ‘Doomsday’ and save “selected groups” of heroes.

It’s been rumored for at least a year up to this point that ‘Secret Wars’ will serve as the reboot of the MCU, leaving only X-Men, Fantastic Four, and perhaps Young Avengers in the cinematic universe. This move would make sense considering that ‘Secret Wars’ in the comics also rebooted the entire universe.

We’re also likely going to see X-Men engage in a bitter fight against the Avengers as the realities collide and both factions are worried about their own survival and mistrustful toward the other faction.
