Ever since ‘Echo’ was released fans have gotten a confirmation that ‘The Defenders’ Saga was canon to the MCU, considering that it’s been added to the official MCU timeline, despite some events conflicting with established MCU lore. Then, reports came that not all of the ‘Defenders’ saga will be canon the MCU, as some events won’t be referenced at all and some characters will be recast.

There’s been a long debate happening for years now whether Ghost Rider was part of the MCU or not. Robbie Reyes debuted in ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and was portrayed by Gabriel Luna. His character eventually departed the Earthly plane in Season 4 Episode 22 when he went to dispose of Darkhold.

Now since the rumors regarding Ghost Rider’s standalone project are getting louder, Daniel Richtman, notable scooper and leaker confirmed that the Ghost Rider of Defenders Saga won’t be the Ghost Rider that we will see in the MCU. It’s likely that a different, more popular version of the character will be used and that the actor will be recast.

According to some recent rumors, Feige wants to transform the alleged Ghost Rider TV show into a full-blown movie, and fans are already chipping in on how the project should be rated R (absolutely) and already guessing which version of the character might appear.

The MCU has a perfect opening to recast Ghost Rider completely if they decide to claim that Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes simply died while getting rid of Darkhold.
