MCU’s ‘Blade’ Production in Trouble as Mahershala Ali Gets Busy With New Project: “Key Players Are Not Happy”
Marvel has plenty of projects bound to be released in the next few years, and we know that most of these projects have been stuck in a sort of limbo due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the whole industry as a whole, causing plenty of projects to be both delayed or altogether canceled.
One extremely anticipated Marvel Studios project that had problems way before the strikes began is ‘Blade.’ It is an MCU-based movie following Eric Brooks, the most notable vampire hunter in comics, and a reboot of the already highly popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that contributed to paving the way for the MCU that we know today.
It would be hard to summarize all the problems that ‘Blade’ had so far, the main star of the movie Mahershala Ali approached the studio with the pitch a long time ago and was officially announced as Blade in 2018. Since then, it’s been a constant cycle of script problems and the movie changed several writers over the course of development.
Now the latest rumors come from John Campea & his podcast, according to the industry insider, the movie has changed writer yet again as Michael Green has left the production. The development is allegedly back to square one as “key players” in the production are not happy with the story at all.
Campea theorized that soon we will get the infamous “Mahershala Ali has left the production due to scheduling conflicts” line which will put the final nail in the coffin (forgive the pun) of the movie.
The “scheduling conflict” bit seems extremely likely now that Ali is set to star in ‘Jurassic World 4’ as was announced yesterday, it seems extremely likely that scheduling conflict will in fact happen if ‘Blade’ is still on track to start shooting in 2025.
Reportedly, Ali already almost walked away from the project a few times, and after a series of changed writers, many speculate that he is in fact the problem holding the production down. I guess you can imagine that academy-award winner wouldn’t be happy with whatever half-baked script Marvel writers are serving these days.
The script was originally supposed to include Blade’s daughter according to reports, who would over the course of the movie be its main character with Blade, the titular character, taking a backseat. Recent reports suggested that the movie will focus on Blade just killing vampires, and Ebony Blade was confirmed to make an appearance in the film.
