It seems that in recent months all news related to the upcoming MCU’s ‘Blade’ reboot has been negative. Following months of troubling news, and Demange leaving his position as the movie’s director the other shoe has finally dropped and the movie has been removed from Disney’s 2025 release slate.

Quite frankly the move has been expected, it was extremely unlikely that the movie would make its November 2025 deadline considering it lacks a filming date, script, and director.

Now the latest reports brought to us from industry insider Daniel Richtman claim that the movie has undergone yet another overhaul. According to insider on Patreon, ‘Blade’ is scheduled to start filming in 2025 in the United Kingdom. The film will have a smaller budget and is expected to be very dark, rated R, as they are currently working on a new script.

This sounds like positive news, especially in light of recent reports that Ali is not walking away from the project. This isn’t surprising considering that industry insiders described Ali as wanting to turn ‘Blade’ into his own ‘Black Panther’ series.

Nothing is known about the movie’s plot at this point but some reports from the past indicated that every time the writer changes.

By May 2013, Marvel Studios had a script ready for a new ‘Blade’ film after regaining the rights from New Line Cinema. In February 2019, Mahershala Ali expressed interest in starring in the film after his role in ‘Luke Cage.’ Marvel officially announced Ali as Blade at San Diego Comic-Con in July. He made an uncredited voice cameo in ‘Eternals’ (2021).

In February 2021, Stacy Osei-Kuffour was hired to write the script, and Bassam Tariq was brought on to direct by September. However, Tariq left a year later due to production changes and creative differences.

Yann Demange was set to direct in November 2022 while Michael Starrbury worked on the script, and Nic Pizzolatto joined as a writer in April 2023. By November, Michael Green was also hired to write a new script. Demange left the project by June 2024, and Pearson was brought in to rewrite it.

The original story of the movie was supposed to focus on Blade’s daughter and was set to be a period piece. Before Demange left the production the story was described as being “just Blade killing vampires” – something that fans were in all honesty fine with.

There are no reports regarding the movie’s connection to the ‘Midnight Sons’ project as of yet.
