Do you remember when, in March, the accidental announcement of a new MCU-original superhero came out because of new Funko merch? Well, after the ‘What If…?’ Season 2 trailer dropped, we finally saw when and where the character will appear.

Kahhori – a new, exciting superhero that never appeared in Marvel Comics – will debut in the second season of the awesome animated MCU anthology series. We don’t know how many episodes Kahhori will appear in, nor if a live-action version of the character will appear in the MCU down the line, but she was heavily featured in the trailer in numerous scenes.

In fact, Kahhori was a character that arguably appears the most throughout the trailer in various scenes. In some, she is alone, showcasing her powers, while in others, she is next to Captain Carter, facing Thanos, the Mad Titan. But who is Kahhori, and what will her role look like?

As it turns out, Kahhori will be a Mohawk, and Marvel Studios worked closely with historians and real-life Mohawk people to get the character’s origins and representation right. In the trailer, there’s a scene where Kahhori seems to be sinking in water before falling into a bright blue light.

One can assume that it will be a scene where we see Kahhori get her powers, as in the rest of the trailer, her traditional Mohawk face paint glows in the same shade of light blu whenever Kahhori uses her powers. The scene from the trailer is only a confirmation of what we already knew – there will be a full episode of the show focusing entirely on Kahhori and her origins.

Earlier, Doug George – a historian working with Marvel on the project – shared that he believes the episode would be ‘exceptional’:

“It tells a remarkable story from a Native-Mohawk perspective which is truly unique and historical, and will give the viewers a new, challenging and entertaining perspective on this land’s first peoples.

The story is dramatic, the characters fully realized, and the action sequences are breathtaking. The episode is exceptional in another sense–it is done with the complete cooperation of the Mohawk people from dialogue to adornment.”

I’m actually quite excited to see something new and original in the MCU that we haven’t seen in the comics. Kahhori seems to be a powerful individual – at least based on what we saw in the trailer for ‘What If…?’

However, whether or not the character appears in live-action projects later will probably depend on how well-received her role and backstory are in the animated show. ‘What If…?’ Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on December 22, the same day that DC(E)U’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ premieres in theaters. And, according to early projections, it’s headed to be another flop.
