Chris Brancato, best known as the creator of the popular and acclaimed Narcos series, is back on mainstream television, as a new project has been ordered from him by a major streaming service – MGM+.

We can confirm that MGM+ has ordered a crime drama series titled The Westies from Brancato. It will be a period drama dealing with the gangs of New York and based on what we know, it will be something in the lines of Peaky Blinders, which is certainly going to attract a lot of fans.

And if you’re thinking that it’s going to be like Scorsese’s Gangs of New York as well, you’re right, as it is a very similar topic, but there is a major difference. Rather than the 19th century, the series is going to be set in the 1980s, which is going to add a touch of originality to the project.

Michael Wright, head of MGM+ said in a statement on Tuesday, shared his enthusiasm about the project with the media: “We are thrilled to bring our viewers another provocative, exciting crime drama from the incomparable vision of Chris Brancato. Chris is a gifted showrunner who builds his stories around compelling characters operating in dangerous worlds about to explode. The Westies is him at his best, and we can’t wait to bring it to our MGM+ audience.”

As said, the series is going to follow Irish hands in New York in the 1980s and that is, more or less, what we know at this point, but we are going to keep you updated!
